Friends of Bishops House are an entirely voluntary group who are keeping Bishops House open to the public.
What is involved in volunteering?
We always need volunteers who can offer time at a weekend, usually a three hour session on a Saturday or Sunday, if possible every four to six weeks. This is mainly welcoming visitors, encouraging children to do the trail, and answering questions and giving information where possible. We organise our rota by volunteers offering sessions by email and we use an electronic calendar, you are totally free to offer a session whenever is convenient. We will pay reasonable travelling expenses of our volunteers.
Whilst some of our volunteers have an interest in history, this is certainly not a requirement. Over time you will easily pick up the relevant facts and we are developing resources which will help to keep visitors informed of the most up to date information. We also need volunteers to help with special events, so if you can't do weekends that doesn't mean we can't make use of you! In addition a number of our volunteers are currently training to do guided tours. As the organisation grows new and varied opportunities will continue to arise. Volunteering at Bishops House is an excellent opportunity both to make using of existing skills, but to develop new ones too!
How do I become a volunteer?
If you are interested in helping us please get in touch via the link below, we will then invite you to a introductory session at the house and show you what is involved in volunteering. If you are still keen you can then fill in a short application form, give a personal referenceand you will be good to go! We won't ask you to do doing anything at all difficult to remember and will make sure that for your first volunteering sessions you are paired up with experienced volunteers. No volunteer ever works alone during a public opening session. We are fully covered with employers and public liability insurance and have all the appropriate health and safety and volunteer policies in place.
