SUMMARY:An Evening with Sam Baxter plus Seb Stone
DESCRIPTION:Sam Baxter is an interpreter\, arranger\, and performer of trad
itional song. With a skilful blend of guitars\, drones and more.\n\n\n\nSa
m Baxter\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nWe are thrilled to be bringing the incredible North
-East of England-based interpreter of traditional song\, Sam Baxter. We sa
w Sam at Folk East in 2023 and he utterly captivated us and we knew we had
to bring him to Bishops’ House. Sam Baxter is an interpreter\, arranger
\, and performer of traditional song. With a skilful blend of electric/aco
ustic guitars\, drones\, and fiddle\, he creates deeply personal performan
ces filled with warmth and emotion.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSam sings a carefully se
lected repertoire\, expressing the full gamut of human experience. He is e
specially interested in how the thoughts and feelings in traditional music
can transcend time and speak to modern audiences. Through his music\, he
explores stories of love and loss\, queer narratives\, songs of industry\,
nature and social injustice.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nOriginally from the North West
England\, but now based in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne\, Sam is gaining a reputat
ion for his work with traditional and contemporary folk music. In 2022 he
was included in TradFolk.org's Article ‘Young Folk Musicians you Need to
Hear’\, and in 2018 he was the winner of Bromyard Folk Festivals ‘Fut
 ure of Folk’ competition.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nAlso a sought-after collaborator
\, he can be found playing in contemporary classical music ensemble Sømnu
s\, with folk-singer and song-writer Catch the Sparrow and in duo with Sco
ttish violinist Merle Harbron. Sam has also toured in Norway with the Synn
eva Gjelland Band and works with electronic music producer Jen Mac in her
project Heen ‘where traditional music meets contemporary production’.\
n\n&nbsp\;\n\nSeb Stone is a traditional singer\, whistle player and uille
ann piper from the Peak District. In 2022 he won Bromyard Folk Festival’
s ‘Future of Folk’ award\, and had his first festival season in 2023.
He draws on a varied repertoire of traditional English and Irish songs\, f
ocussing on the stories they have to tell\, and their relevance to our mod
ern world\, singing them with “understanding\, sensitivity &amp\; streng
th”. Seb is a keen session player\, and when he’s not poring over broa
dsides or field recordings\, he can be found playing sessions in Sheffield
 ’s thriving folk scene.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n\
