nBill Wells\, this time with Aby Vulliamy in a duo iteration of The Nation
al Jazz Trio of Scotland. \nPromoting their latest album\, the sixth in a
series entitled ‘Standards’\, this is the first that is genuinely a co
llection of actual jazz standards\, chosen for their ethereal sadness\, an
d rearranged to create an otherworldly air of loneliness. The new long pla
yer is the latest in a series of collaborative efforts from Wells. In 2012
\, he won the inaugural Scottish Album Of The Year award for ‘Everything
’s Getting Older’\, which saw him work with Arab Strap’s Aidan Moffa
 t. This was followed by ‘The Most Important Place In The World’.\n\nBi
ll has recorded with Japan-based musicians including Jim O’Rourke and Sa
ya of Tenniscoats\, and four years later\, he assembled a cast of musician
s including Annette Peacock and Yo La Tengo for ‘Nursery Rhymes’ which
were children’s songs\, even if the release explored the ‘darker side
’.\n\nJad Fair\, V-Twin\, Stefan Schneider and Isobel Campbell are among
the other artists that the Falkirk-based musician has worked with.
