SUMMARY:Jacken Elswyth plus support
DESCRIPTION:Clawhammer banjo explorations. FFO the more experimental side o
f folk and devotees of drone.\n\n\n\nSonido Polifonico are delighted to we
lcome back clawhammer banjo-player extraordinaire Jacken Elswyth to Bishop
s’ House after a mesmerising show last year. We love Jacken’s music so
much here\, we issued a lathe cut “Limekiln” in 2023\, featuring her
music and art.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nJacken is a member of the acclaimed Shovel Da
nce Collective\, and as a solo artist\, she similarly stretches the bounda
ries of the folk tradition\, in fact on her latest album “Six Static Sce
nes” she shreds them into hypno-swirls of obsession and repetition\, rem
iniscent of avant-fiddler Henry Flynt. If you are a fan of the more experi
mental side of folk and a devotee of drone\, this night is for you!\n\n&nb
sp\;\n\nJacken’s talents extend to some beautiful medieval woodcuts so t
he Tudor environs of Bishops’ House are THE place to hear her play.\n\n&
nbsp\;\n\n“Six Static Scenes works beautifully as an exercise in control
led chaos and hectic minimalism\, and also as a modernist interpretation o
f an antiquated form. But if you look deeper\, it represents something per
haps more important: it is a celebration of the other\, the road not taken
\, and as such\, it shows just how much scope there is for finding new and
unrestricted paths in folk music. “ (Folk Radio)\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n\n
