SUMMARY:Marcia Bassett Ignatz Oupire
DESCRIPTION:An evening of experimental electronica and weird folk with an
audio visual slant\nA collaboration between Sonido Polifonico and Sensori
 a.Marcia Bassett Marcia Bassett is a NYC-based musician\, performer\, and
artist known for her innovative and unconventional approach to music.Marci
a combines sound and light to explore multidimensionality\, meta patterns
\, and intricate relationship with time. Bassett's latest work delves int
o the interconnectivity of all things through sound and light. Using modul
ar synthesis and the transformative power of light and patterns\, she crea
tes intricate soundscapes that can transport listeners to altered states a
nd otherworldly realms. Bassett will present an abstract video that blends
contemporary digital technology with the timeless beauty of hand-manipula
ted super 8 films to create an immersive realm of light\, color\, patterns
\, and glitched images\, accompanied by an improvised soundscape created i
 n real-time.Photo Credit -VeraMarmeloIn 1910\, the illustrator George H
erriman created the Krazy Kat comic strip. Ignatz\, a vicious mouse\, was
Krazy Kat’s arch enemy\, and his favourite pastime was to throw bricks a
t Krazy Kat’s head (who misinterpreted the mouse’s actions as declarat
ions of love). Belgian artist Bram Devens uses Ignatz as his alter-ego\, a
nd comes armed with his own pile of bricks\; sparse\, emotive songs born o
f the human condition\, wrapped in effects\, corroded by tape\, driven for
th by improvisation and spontaneity.\n\nIgnatz’s songs stem from a famil
iar stripped folk framework\, with Devens’ delivery recalling the louche
primitivism of V.U. or Henry Flynt – but these songs sound inverted\, c
ast adrift\, their cool touch belying a stymied heat beneath the surface.
Where Devens’ fretwork is adorned\, it is executed with a refined coarse
ness. Autonomous loops entwine each other. Songs brush past percussion\, b
ass notes\, or a scant keyboard motif. A voice recedes from the heart of t
he song into a dislocated\, cracked drawl.Photo by Silke SarensOupireOu
pire is a sonic collaboration between Dafydd Roberts (Blodeuedd/Alphane Mo
on ) and Johann Wlight\, inspired by book artist Graeme Hobbs's re-working
of Sheridan Le Fanu's 1872 vampire novella 'Carmilla'\; weaving skeins of
extended spectral folk decay. Their performance will be 'accompanied' by
an edited version of Carl Dreyers 1932 film 'Vampyr.
