SUMMARY:Sairie / Mary Hampton
DESCRIPTION:Sairie are a three piece band based in East Sussex comprising:
Emma Morton (vocals\, autoharp)\, Jon Griffin (vocals\, guitar) and Andy T
homas (bass).\nOur music has been described as sparse and delicate\, The W
ire said that it “retains the English folk tradition nurtured by Anne Br
iggs and Shirley Collins.” Folk Radio UK de scribed our sound as “utte
rly spellbinding and beautiful”\nThe band was formed in 2018 by Emma and
Jon who had been playing together in Brighton folk group Lutine. To date
we have released two 7” singles on the Fenny Comp ton and Gardner’s De
light labels\, a self released EP (distributed by Hudson Records)\, and a
digital only EP produced remotely during the Covid lock down. All of which
have gar nered critical praise.\nIn 2020 we were due to start work on our
debut album but then Covid happened and un able to meet up even to practi
ce we distracted ourselves by working remotely on a series of covers of so
ngs from movies that we loved\, this project soon took on a life on its ow
n and became the long digital-only EP ‘The Cinder Sheet’ which we rele
ased at the end of last year (also distributed by Hudson Records). The Cin
der Sheet also received a lot of praise critically and beguiled Stewart Le
e who wrote about it in The Idler Magazine.\nNow\, with the long distracti
on ended we are at work demoing our first album\, this will be\, with the
exception of one traditional piece\, a collection of all original songs.\n
\n“Anticipation grows for where Sairie can take their open-eared psych-f
olk vision next.” Folk Radio UK\n\nSairie have performed shows with the
likes of Gwenifer Raymond\, Burd Ellen\, Ye Vagabonds\, Kris Drever\, Barb
ara Manning\, David Lance Callahan\, Ben Phillipson\, Fuzzy Lights\, Myles
Manley\, Wax Machine and Kris Drever.\n\nhttps://youtu.be/ggGp1gW_K1I\n\n
