SUMMARY:YUKO ARAKI plus Juliana Day
DESCRIPTION:An evening redefining the outer boundaries of noise\, post-indu
strial techno and experimental electronics.Yuko Araki Yuko is one of a nu
mber of young female artists emerging from Japan that are redefining the o
uter boundaries of noise\, post-industrial techno and experimental electro
nics.\n\nRaised as a pianist\, Araki’s teenage obsession with metal open
ed a gateway towards various types of intense sonics. Exploring a range of
diverse music projects over the past decade (KUUNATIC\, Concierto de la F
amilia)\, her solo work resolved in 2019 after she developed an approach t
o freeform analog noise\, releasing her first EP “I” via Indonesian la
bel Gerpfast Kolektif and her debut album “II” via Italian label Comma
ndo Vanessa. Working with a reductive set of tools\, her methodology was t
o create work that created a sense of timbral density and complexity throu
gh a weaving together of competing elements.\nIn 2021 Australian Label Roo
m40 released “End of Trilogy”\, a record of unpredictable momentum and
tempered ferocity. Even at its most intense\, Yuko Araki’s work maintai
ns a sense of playfulness\, and a determination not to succumb to mere son
ic nihilism.\n\nIn 2023 Araki surveils an expanded terrain with IV\, her n
ew album coming out October 27th via Australian Label Room40.\nMoving outw
ard from the orbit of her End Of Trilogy edition\, Araki creates a wholly
more bludgeoning sound world. Working at the nexus of ritual\, noise\, sub
sonics and crushing rhythms\, her latest recording is resolutely embodied
\, smothering the listener in undulating pressure waves. She also summons
an altogether otherworldly approach to voice\, which operates as fugitive
spirits within their caustic\, post-industrial sound spaces she composes.
This interest in voice is accentuated with special contributions from gues
ts including Endon’s Taichi Nagura.Juliana DayJuliana is a recorder play
er\, whistle player and vocalist based in Sheffield\, UK. She has performe
d for TV\, theatre\, opera and radio including for the BBC\, Royal Shakesp
eare Company\, Manchester Collective and Yorkshire Silent Film Festival.\n
\n\n\nShe co-directs Emergence Collective\, an improvised minimalist ensem
ble\, featuring a revolving line-up of around 30 musicians. They have jus
t released their second album which was featured in Loud &amp\; Quiet maga
zine and Quietus' Music of the Month.\n\n\n\n "enthralling gorgeous\, myst
erious and mesemerising" Cast The Dice\n\n\n\nShe is part of the professio
nal improvising ensemble for the Yorkshire Silent Film Festival\, and has
provided instrumental and backing vocals for numerous session recordings.
\n\n\n\nHer solo project combines ambient improvisation\, folk\, experimen
tal techniques and live electronics- much of her work is inspired by natur
e\, and focuses on using music as a form of collective communication\, exp
ression and connection. Her latest work\, which will be released later thi
s year is inspired by sea and desert landscapes and combines textures and
sounds found within those environments\, all created live. \n\n\n\n"abs
olutely beautiful" - Corey Mwamba. BBC Radio 3
