Pearl Button Manufacture in Sheffield

Wednesday December 2nd, 7.30pm

Sheffield is synonymous with steel, cutlery and knives, but buttons? Archaeological excavations on the current site of Heeley City Farm produced evidence of buttons being made from mother of pearl shell. There are no records of manufacturing premises at this location, so were people making buttons in their homes? Join me on a journey of discovery into a little-known aspect of Sheffield’s industrial past.
