Anura, Painted Faces + Persona

Anura is the downer pop project of Brendan Landis (fka Hey Exit). Sometimes heavy and melancholic, sometimes airy and delicate.
“I’m used to the solo guitar workouts from Brooklyn’s Brendan Landis to be somewhat noise-oriented, but this one moves with heavy pop gauze layering that makes me think of Azusa Plain and the like – the avant wing of the shoegaze scene… Pretty wild.”

Painted Faces is the solo recording project of artist/musician David Drucker born in Miami, Florida but based in Queens, New York since 2011. Sometimes there are other members playing live and on tour. It is usually a solo endeavour, and the bulk of the recordings have been done as such. Painted Faces has always been a home recording solo project, one-man-band style heavy on psychedelic / outsider folk / noise / experimental vibes   (Rough Trade)
He writes and records all the music for Painted Faces on his own often using borrowed equipment and whatever he has laying around in terms of instruments and percussion.  He has no specific “sound” for it is constantly changing and evolving, just like his songs themselves.

Persona is a guitar and vocal based collaboration of Sheffield based New Yorker, Raquel Vogl  and Claire Williams. Their music combines dislocated breathy vocals with angular, percussive guitar.
Raquel has a rich past as part of the NY and Washington DC punk scenes.  (Raquel and Claire are also part of the group People Here). Claire Williams (aka Myrtle) sang in the Canyon Family and Former Lover (with Dorian Cox of the Long Blondes).
The duo cite Annette Peacock, Talking Heads and Sei Shonagon’s  The Pillow Book as influences.
