Bishops’ House Autumn Fayre

Sunday 9th October 2016 10am – 4pm

Bishops’ House are hosting an Autumn Fayre with a medieval twist. Join us for a fun weekend of craft stalls, music, dancing, refreshments, children’s entertainment, knights fighting and much more! The Knights in Battle re-enactment group will be in battle around 11am & 3pm on Saturday and 11:15am & 2pm on Sunday. £1.50 per adult/children free (children must be accompanied by an adult).

Demonstrations:

Wood Turning
Robert Nicholson (https://m.facebook.com/Robsgreenwoodwork/) is a green woodworker specialising in pole lathe turned bowls, hand carved spoons and dough troughs. Come and see him demonstrating wood turning using a traditional pole lathe and purchase some of his work.

Hand Weaving
Ruth Gilbert (https://www.facebook.com/ruth.gilbert.10) is a weaver and textile historian, specialising in cloth for clothing, curtains and furnishings. She will be demonstrating spinning and weaving over the weekend and her work will be available to purchase.

Stained Glass
Billigoat Designs (http://www.billigoatdesigns.co.uk/) specialises in stained glass tuition and the manufacture of leaded glass panels, copperfoil work and glass based jewellery. Come and see Kate in action making stained glass items over the weekend.

Pottery
Poterie Des Pommiers (http://www.poteriedespommiers.talktalk.net/) produce handmade stoneware pottery on a traditional potters wheel. See Mark throwing some pots and purchase some of his work.

 

Entertainment:

 

Knights in Battle
The Knights in Battle medieval society specialise in bringing medieval history to life. See them in action as they battle with swords and shields, and listen to them talk about their armour, weapons, and what life was like in medieval times.

Dronfield Handbell Ringers
The handbell ringers from Dronfield will be playing a selection of music to fill the house with uplifting sound.

Peasants Revolt
Wandering minstrels bring medieval music to life. Peasants Revolt is a re-enactment group playing period music on hurdy gurdy, bagpipes, drum and fiddle.

Boggart’s Breakfast
The Sheffield based Border Morris side known for their energy, precision and troublemaking skills.

The Beekeepers
The Beekeepers chamber folk group play traditional tunes in harmony, with a mellow feel.

Carfield Choir
Meersbrook’s favourite local choir, whose repertoire ranges from Latin chants to Adele songs.

Food and Drink

There will be delicious food available throughout the day from the Dronfield Barn caterers. The Golden Grail Tavern will be selling traditional drinks from the Middle Ages, including orchard wines, mead and ale.
