Midwinter solstice with Andy Whitehouse and Summerisle

Saturday 21st December doors open 6.30pm for 7pm start

A midwinter night of meditative guitar and song with all proceeds going to the Friends of Bishops’ House

Andy Whitehouse last played at Bishops’ House for a sell out gig one balmy evening in the summer. The whole night had a magical feeling. Impressed that the Friends of Bishops’ House maintain this museum (and great music venue!) on an entirely voluntary basis, and feeling very at home, Andy had a word with fellow musician friend Frank Birtwistle. The result was that the two came back with the promise of a Christmas gig at the House with all proceedings going to the Friends of BIshops’ House.

Andy’s songs have something of the 70s singer songwriter sensibility, thoughtful songs that cast generosity and optimism against darker realities. Andy has built up a loyal following, and a listen to his enchanting Anthony and Rita will tell you why:

Summerisle is a recently formed duo with Frank Birtwistle on guitar and singer Sally Doherty. This will be Summerisle’s first appearance at Bishops’ House, but not Frank’s first. We first heard Frank playing solo, where the intensity of his atmospheric fingerstyle guitar playing alone was enough to move some in the audience to tears.

We’re very grateful to Andy and Summerisle for their generosity. This promises to be a truly special gig being so close to Christmas and we are expecting it to sell out, so please don’t leave your ticket purchases too late!

Doors open 6.30pm for music to start at 7.00pm and finish at 9pm approx.
