Saturday 18th May: Fran and Flora – Eastern European folk music inspired violin and cello

Fran & Flora are a contemporary violin and cello duo playing in the eastern-European folk music traditions. The release of their debut album, unfurl in February follows growing acclaim for their live and radio performances. The duo’s version of Transylvanian Doina was selected as ‘pick of the week’ on BBC Radio 3’s ‘World on 3’, they were invited to play at Latitude and have featured on BBC Radio 6.

Unfurl is the culmination of years of playing together and alongside established names such as Sam Lee and Talvin Singh. The album features personal interpretations and arrangements of music from across East Europe alongside the duo’s own more contemporary sounding compositions.

‘A string duo bound for glory’.. ‘Their calm and tranquil virtuosity blew us all away’ – Max Reinhart, BBC Radio 3, Late Junction

‘virtuoso string duo – That playing has the kind of quality that you couldn’t fake or acquire in a hurry – proper lived in playing’ – Tom Robinson BBC Radio 6 Music

Bishops’ House will be the perfect environment to experience this music, but space is limited and we recommend purchasing tickets in advance to avoid disappointment.
